ACWF Holds Video Meeting to Study Law on Safeguarding National Security in HK SARJuly 24, 2020
The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a video meeting on July 19 to study the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR). Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, spoke at the meeting. Members of the Executive Committee of the ACWF from Hong Kong and Macao SARs attended the meeting via video link. During the meeting, Maggie Chan Man-ki and Pauline Ngan Po-ling, Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress and members of the Executive Committee of the ACWF, shared their thoughts about the law from the legal perspective and participation in legislative process respectively. They also answered questions from the participants to improve their understanding of the law.
The attendees unanimously stated that the law marked a turning point for Hong Kong to end chaos and bring back order, and a milestone event in the implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle. Some members said that thanks to the communication platform established by the ACWF, they could learn more about the law. They vowed to give play to their advantages and contribute to ensuring national security and promoting the social harmony and stability of the Hong Kong SAR.
Xia Jie fully affirmed the efforts that the Hong Kong and Macao members of the ACWF's Executive Committee have made in publicizing the law and safeguarding national security and Hong Kong's long-term stability. Xia said the Hong Kong and Macao members should continue to publicize the law to local women and juveniles in communities and schools to enhance their national awareness and patriotism, in a bid to protect national sovereignty, security and fundamental interests. They were also expected to contribute to ensuring the steady and sustained implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and embrace a brighter future for Hong Kong and Macao.
